Greetings Ellington Community!
I hope all is well and everyone is staying safe. Thank you to everyone who participated in our Community Meeting last week. I appreciate the contributions from fellow panelists Chandra Dawson, Amber Golden, Jerry Jellig, and Brenda Morris, as well as the attendees’ questions and comments.
We are compiling the answers to FAQs and will share them shortly. Please stay tuned for more in the upcoming months. Together we will work toward ensuring a safe and nurturing learning environment at our school.
As mentioned during the meeting, we have updated forms on our NEW mobile app. The new version for Android is available in the Google Play Store here, under “Duke Ellington School.” The new version for IOS is pending approval from Apple and expected to be available this week. Please delete the old mobile app and download the new version to stay connected and informed.
Spring Break begins next week and the current model of instruction will remain in place afterward, until our Term 4 reopening on April 26. We are awaiting final guidance from DCPS but expect to welcome 35%-50% of students for in-person learning, including every Arts department. We expect to use a hybrid instructional model with simultaneous in-person and virtual learning.
There will be a Term 4 community meeting as soon as more details are available. For those families interested in returning to in-person learning for Term 4, please send an email to [email protected].
Today is the last scheduled meeting for families to learn about the enrollment process for SY21-22. Enrollment opened last week and all returning families must re-enroll each year. Read further for more information and resources.
The Student Government Association is hosting a Movie Night Drive-By, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. There will be a live deejay and the first 200 students who arrive will receive gift bags. We encourage students to come out, have fun, and see their classmates. Later, join SGA for Movie Night at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Choose between “Crazy Rich Asians” or “Doctor Strange.” The link will be posted in Naviance on Friday.
Also this week, check out performances from Instrumental Music, “Sounds of Spring” (Thursday at 7 p.m.), and from Dance, “21 Feet Apart: A Kinetic Evolution” (Friday at 7 p.m.). Tickets are available at the box office or via this donation link.
You are invited to join the DC Department of Parks & Recreation and the DC Department of General Services for a community meeting to discuss upcoming renovations at Ellington Field. Your attendance and feedback are greatly appreciated. The meeting is Tuesday, April 6, from 6:30 p.m.- 8 p.m. To sign up, click here. You also may join the meeting by phone at 202-860-2110 (access code 157-547-7269).
