Donna Garland, Marketing and Sales Coordinator at WK&T, said in December 2020, Congress appropriated 3.2 billion dollars to help families get discounts on broadband internet services. “Not all broadband providers are participating, but WK&T is,” said Garland. Garland said the program will last until funds run out or six months after the pandemic has ended, whichever comes first. The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program launched on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.
Low-income households, specifically those who qualify for free or reduced lunch, are eligible for this discount. However, as Graves County Schools is a free and reduced meal district, all families who enroll their children in this program may be eligible, as well.
WK&T Chief Operating Officer Karen Jackson-Furman said WK&T is excited about being able to offer this opportunity to their customers. “This program will help our members that have been adversely affected by the pandemic, or may otherwise be struggling, to get connected and stay connected to WK&T’s fiber network. Fiber networks provide the fastest, most reliable internet available,” said Jackson-Furman. “We hope this program brings relief and opportunity to those that qualify.”
